Chromium is a mineral required for regulating energy metabolism - it maintains stable blood sugar levels. Chromium is required in the synthesis of fats, protein and carbohydrates.
Recent research suggests that chromium may help insulin work more effectively in the cells of the body.
Only a small amount (in micrograms) of chromium is required to sustain normal functioning of the body.
- Chromium levels naturally decrease with age
- Chromium picolinate is the most bio-available form of chromium for human synthesis - that is why most chromium supplements have it in this form
- Chromium supplements will only be absorbed if there is a deficiency of it in the body
Chromium is an essential mineral which helps insulin work properly, enhances glucose transport and promotes healthy blood sugar levels. As a co-factor of insulin, chromium acts to ensure that insulin sensitivity in the cell is at a normal level. This has a major implication in the body's ability to use glucose for energy and in the control of blood sugar levels.
