Q: Is there anything I can eat that will help with my complexion or the health of my skin from breakouts?

A: Yes, but it depends on the cause of your problem.

Broadly speaking, fresh fruit and vegetables should always help if eaten on a daily basis. Antioxidant foods such as watermelon, strawberries parsley, green tea, wheatgrass juice and dark green leafy vegetables are the basic skin foods.

Herbs such as Dandelion root, Nettle leaf, Calendula and Red clover are traditionally used in the naturopathic clinic, either as a herbal tea (1 cup 3 times per day) or taken in the form of herbal extract made up by your nearest herbalist.

A combination of herbs and abovementioned foods have outstanding results. If your skin problem is caused by hormonal fluctuations, you may have to see a natural therapist for more specialised treatment. Selenium may also be of benefit, but you would have to see a naturopath to recommend appropriate doses of herbs and other supplements.
